NPM welcomes government’s efforts on Lokpal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 26: In a resolution, the NPM has welcomed the efforts of the government in giving shape to a credible bill on Lokpal and getting it passed in the Parliament. The Forum however has been following suggestions to offer, with the request that these may be incorporated in the bill. The needed changes in the LokPal bill included Prime Minister should not be within the purview of the Lokpal, because of the sensitive and delicate nature of his job. Chief Justice of India, should not be included in the list of functionaries or authorities, against whom Lokpal can institute action or enquiry. In any case, CBI needs to be an autonomous institution and free from the control of the government. Officers, employees of all levels should be within the purview of Lokpal. There need not be any differentiation between class A/B and Class C/D. NPM has resolved to give all sort of support to the campaign against corruption. The party feels that including the Right to Recall, (legislators) should be included in the constitution. The practice is in vogue in some countries, and it is no way against democratic principles. In fact, this would make legislators more responsible and responsive. No doubt, the safeguards and other requisite must be included. NPM coordinator and spokesman Subodh Mukoo appreciates the gesture made by Darul-ulum, Devband, in issuing a fatwa and appealing Muslims to join Hindu community in their protest against Russian Court’s decision to ban Bhagwat Gita. Further, it has been felt that ethnic minorities should be given reservation on the basis of economic backwardness, and Subodh Mukoo has urged the political masters not to divide country on caste, creed and Religion. It is hoped that UPA government would give due consideration to the suggestions given. We have full faith in the Prime Minister and believe that he will not belie our expectations. NPM condemns the recent militant killings in Kashmir which indicate all is not well. AFSPA cannot be withdrawn.
