Where profit is motive, relevance of education is lost | | KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 12/26/2011 11:14:54 PM |
| The basic purpose of education is to nourish the skills, sharpen the intellect, dispel the darkness and broaden the horizon of the school going children by imparting them valuable education .The other objective is to make them a healthy citizen possessing rich moral values to show restraint and respect to other's cultures and become a very good citizen to think rationally for the healthy growth and development of both the state and society. Not only this, it is aimed to endeavour to inculcate social awakening among them to grasp worldwide knowledge to strike balance between what is good or bad, shun violence and become more humanistic towards fellow human beings to live as a civilised individual in the world. But unfortunately ,it has been observed that modern system of education is more or less inclined to produce not good citizens but mercenaries to amass wealth to make life lively .Possession of wealth by the legitimate means is not an offence but that to at the cost of losing morality is equally unadvisable, unjustified and uncalled for. Now -a -days, the modern standard of measuring the yardstick of one's success rate is the accumulation of wealth irrespective of the means employed to garner it. Such an application of mind in promoting the education for seeking the monetary benefits is quite unfortunate and truly asks for a relook at the dissemination process of education. In the pursuit of achieving the excellence, parents are over stressing and over pressurising their children without giving them ample time to breathe and think. This butchered thrust of the parents to seek more and more marks has truly killed the innate instinct of the children and under the heavy load of the studies, majority of the students have lost their childhood .They have started to live in the state of depression ,anxiety ,insecurity and disassociation. They are finding their parents no more their friends and caretaker but instead have started taking them to be hard task masters who wish to fulfil their own left uncherished dreams through the achievements of their children. The net sufferer is none other than young mind whose thoughts are blown out of the proportions for no fault of his /her personality. There has been general cry all around that modern children are less care taker of their parents but does we ever realise that how much time we people are affording to our siblings in sharing their personal feelings, likes/dislikes .Our main objective is to pull them to mug up the knowledge without realising the basic aspects of the subject at hand. We ourselves are responsible to make them rote crammer and vomit in the paper and then expect wonderful results. And when this does not happen, we instead of introspecting the cause behind the fall pull the child and start comparing with the fellow children of friends and relatives. This type of maltreatment does not encourage child in taking risk and becomes more possessive and grows introvert which slowly affects his traits and causes irreparable loss. The children start taking education as a burdensome field and their attention gets distracted from the normal course of action. Outnumbered cases have been reported in which it has been learnt that children succumbed to the pressure developing suicidal tendencies, which is in no way a healthy sign of any liberal democratic society. The aim of the education must be the harmonious growth and development of the personality of every student .But instead of this we push our children to become wealth earning machine for ourselves. We barely realise that child too have feelings and ideas which needs to be listened, appreciated and refined through our personal insights and experiences. But who cares and in this era of competitive world, we have made them slave to time .Child is best asset of a society who after gaining the educational enlightenment can help to form a better nation by adopting a cosmopolitan look by rejecting hypocrisy ,dishonesty and violence . The role of the teacher in the schools always seeks due attention to understand the causes behind the slow paced progress and development of the students. They should self become the role models for their students by raising their own stature through simplicity and adoring lofty ideals but again it is sad to mention that modern teacher have taken their job as 8-odd hours duty. Beyond this point, they do not strive to take extra pains to mingle with the students to explore the difficulties of their students. They too just emphasise on the concept of rote memory without dwelling in detail upon the subject. One hardly finds a lively rapport between the teacher and the children .It is because that modern teacher's are more banking upon the tuition culture and when the profit gets involved in the spread of education ,the actual relevance of the education is weaned away. Student do not show respect towards their entire teaching fraternity holding them to be the selling shops where education can be bought at throw away prices. Now, to overcome this malaise, what is urgently desired is none other than free interaction between the parents and teachers. It is because the children have raw experience and they at their own cannot do much except exerting in vacuum .The free interaction between the parents and the teachers can help a lot in formulating the modus operandi for covering the weakness and stress upon those areas where there is the need to have a fresh look to boost the low confidence of the students. Parents must not force to their children to overexert at the cost of their health while teacher should locate the grey areas where the students need to be pushed .Society is heterogeneous which is basic law of the nature and so to expect that every individual would excel with the same pace and dexterity in same field with one's counterpart is shocking thing to imagine and hard to digest. Hence the potential of every individual must be assessed and nurtured according to individual capacity to bear the load of education not always for the sake of accruing the monetary gains from the education but for a better social living as well. |
