BJP not averse to re-entry of disqualified MLAs provided they seek apology | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 26: To refurbish the image of the party in the state and save any further damage control after the resignation of a large number of party activists who joined the bandwagon of expelled leader and former MOS Defense Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, the party will not hesitate in taking back some of the disqualified MLAs provided they seek an apology for indulging in cross voting during April 13 elections to Legislative Council. According to sources BJP High Command will not be rigid towards those MLAs who admit that they were involved in cross voting provided they seek apology for the same. Earlier Party has decided to exonerate the two MLAs from group of seven who had approached the High Command to take a lenient view in their case and not to disqualify them from the Party membership. However this was turned by a senior national leader on the plea that party can't afford to take action against five MLAs and leave two when the allegation of cross voting is for all the seven MLAs. The senior leader according to sources has made it clear to the High Command that only way out for them is that these two MLAs have to seek an apology. This will be the base on which the High Command can reconsider decision against them, sources said. The senior Party leader has informed the High Command that giving a clean chit to two MLAs will pose a technical question that who were the other two members who have cross voted in the MLCs elections, sources said, adding that this forced the High Command to act against all seven MLAs as the two Legislators who had approached the High Command demanding that a lenient view be taken in their case failed to tender the written apology. But the sources said the BJP is still not hesitant in taking these MLAs back in party fold provided they seek an apology from Party. A senior leader from Delhi said that Party will take those MLAs back into its fold who will tender an apology for cross voting and admit the same publicly. He said being a disciplined Party BJP will not afford any kind of indiscipline in the party and in case party will take any lenient view in this regard it will send a wrong signal which Party can't afford. He said BJP has taken various steps to rejuvenate the Party in the state and bringing back the disqualified MLAs is one among them provided they seek an unconditional apology and make the public admission that they have defied the Party whip and cross voted in favour of NC and Congress candidates. He said the BJP eyeing the coming local bodies and Municipal Corporation elections in mind rejuvenating the Party is must and in this regard the Central leaders will visit the state in every month and hold the meetings of activists in different districts. The BJP leader said that strict instructions have also been given to state leadership asking them to work as a united team by sinking all difference so that the opponents don't get any chance to exploit the situation to their advantage. |
