State coalition neglecting SCs in J&K : Manhas
12/27/2011 9:52:09 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 27: Continuing with the policies of previous governments, the present NC-Congress coalition is also neglecting the members of Scheduled Caste community in Jammu and Kashmir in all spheres and at all levels.
It was alleged in a high level meeting of prominent SC leaders of BJP held under the leadership of party State President Shamsher Singh Manhas at party hqrs. On Tuesday.
These leaders, who have been serving the party for the last many years in different capacities, discussed various hardships and disabilities confronting the SCs in the state due to the discriminatory policies of the government towards them.
Shamsher Singh Manhas, expressed concern that the SCs have not been given due representation in the matters related to recruitments, promotions, developments, as a result of which their socio-economic condition still remains backward. There have been violations of recruitment rules and dozens of litigations has been pending in the courts seeking justice for the years together. Even in Jammu district there are a number of areas lacking elementary facilities just because they are having substantial number of SCs.
Manhas questioned as to why the component plan meant for the welfare and development of SCs has been shelved by the NC-Congress oalition. While a large numbers of SCs are still without any shelter and are refugees, yet the government has enough land for its ministers and their supporters to illegally grab it. The poor landless SC people are not deemed worthy to be bestowed these state largasses even though there are statutes obliging the government to allot the available government land to the needy without any cost.
Manhas said that the BJP has all along been working towards the welfare of the Scheduled Castes. We have always raised voice against the discrimination meted to them and demanded transparency in extending the benefits of all the welfare schemes launched by the Central government and the state govern ment. He assured that BJP will not dilute its commitment for upliftment of the hapless people.
Bali Bhagat, Balbir Ram, Subash Bhagat, Chaman Lal Kanathia, N.D. Rajwal, Surinder Bhagat and Jeet Angral were present in the meeting.
