| Azad assures inquiry into selection of DMs in SKIMS | | ‘90 percent appointments in the state have been made through back door in past’ | |
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today assured the Legislative Assembly that the matter of admission for DM Cardiology for the year 2005 in SKIMS Soura would be inquired into. He was replying to the supplementaries on a question in Legislative Assembly today. NC leader Mian Altaf raised the question of the selection of the one extra candidate in cardiology department in valley’s premier health institute SKIMS. Mian Altaf alleged, that the appointment of the one extra candidate as DM in SKIMS has been made through the back door. Transport Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma answered the question of Mian Altaf saying, “in light of the non-admission of students in DM courses for consecutive years an additional candidate as per the merit list in the entrance examination was admitted for DM Cardiology for the year 2005, which is completely in line with the policy adopted at AIIMS, New Delhi and PGI Chandigarh. He added, “ since for last three years no selection was made as such for next three years, instead of two seats selected for three seats will be made.” However, Mian Altaf was not convinced by the explanation rendered by Sharma. He (Altaf), demanded that Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who also holds the health portfolio, should reply the question and NC members present in the house supported Altaf. When Chief Minister, stood up to reply the question and tried explaining that appointment has not been made through the back door, Mian Altaf tried interrupting him. However, Azad replied calmly, saying, “ app mujhe gada murda ukhadana par majboor na karain ( if I go into the history, it will open a Pandora’s box.” He added, “during last fifty years, 90 percent of the appointments in the state have been made through the back door.” However, Mian Altaf kept on insisting that the appointments should be probed and government should hand over the case to the vigilance organization. Later Chief Minister, assured the house that official inquiry would be conducted and matter would be looked into.
