Night to remain cold in Kashmir, Kargil recorded coldest temperature | | | Early times report Srinagar, Dec 28 : Kargil on the Srinagar-Leh national highway experienced the coldest night of the season as the minimum slid to minus 15 degrees Celsius, weather office said today.
The weatherman said the border town of Kargil recorded the temperature at minus 15 degrees, more than two notches lower than yesterday.
Leh also in Ladakh region recorded minus 16 degrees temperature against yesterday's minus 14.4 degrees.
Minimum was between minus 18 degrees and minus 30 degrees in the upper reaches and areas near the Line of Control (LoC).
He said there would be no let up in the cold where nights would remain cold after Kargil in Ladakh region recorded lowest minimum temperature of the season this morning.
The weather would remain mainly dry and cold over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, he said, adding that there would be no large change in the weather during the next two days.
In Srinagar, the sky will remain partly cloudy with haze. The minimum was minus 3.4 degrees, 1.4 degree below normal.
However, the lowest temperature so far recorded in Srinagar was minus 4.9 degrees on December 26, when parts of the Dal Lake, other water bodies and taps were frozen.
Gulmarg, world famous ski resort in north Kashmir, was coldest in the valley after the minimum settled at minus 8.2 degrees. The coldest day in the tourist resort was experienced on December 23 when the minimum was recorded minus 12 degrees.
The health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, recorded minus 7 degrees mercury.
Gateway of Kashmir recorded minus 5.2 degrees followed by Kokernag minus 4.6 degrees and frontier district of Kupwara minus 3.5 degrees.
