Now ‘poor’ governance irks Mirwaiz | Paradigm shift | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 28: In a development that may have far reaching political consequences, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has expressed concern over what he called `poor' governance. While separatists have taken Mirwaiz's statement with a pinch of salt, the pro-Indian lobby has welcomed it. The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar welcomed the statement. Appreciating the interest being taken by Moulvi Umar Farooq day to day administrative functioning particularly with regard to supply of water, electricity and other essential items, Sagar said that at present, the government is supplying 950 MW power in the valley which is far ahead of the supply made in corresponding previous year. Referring to the comment of Mirwaiz that the entire administration has gone to Jammu and nobody is in the valley, Sagar said that at present four cabinet Ministers remained constantly visiting the valley. This is probably the first time when a separatist has shown interest in issues like water, electricity and roads. According to renowned Srinagar based column sees it as the beginning of `participative politics'. According to him, 2012 debate will revolve around governance. People close to Mirwaiz believe the movement has come of age. There was a time when separatists refused to offer a comment on demolition of Babri Masjid. A militant organization said: "It is an internal problem of India. We do not want to poke our nose in it." Significantly Mirwaiz Hurriyat has not been active for the past three years. The show was run by Syed Ali Geelani as Mirwaiz and others sat on the fence. |
