Old Wine In New Bottle | Bhim resets agenda for his outfit for 2012 | | Neha Jammu, Dec 29: Panthers Party chairman Bhim Singh says that he has set a new agenda for his party for the year 2012. He said so in Jammu yesterday. It is not a new agenda. It is the carbon copy of the agenda 2011, agenda which was made public in the first week of January that year with much fanfare. That agenda envisaged reorganization of the state; three assemblies, one each for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh; three chief ministers, one each for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh; separate public service commissions for three regions; separate directorates for three regions; and so on. He had then made a solemn pledge that he and his party would do all that they could to implement the agenda 2011 so that the people of Jammu province were freed from the cruel clutches of the Kashmiri leadership. Did Bhim Singh and his party do anything concrete to achieve the stated objective? He and his party didn't do anything whatever to achieve the objective. They held a few press conferences and a couple of sit-ins. No serious attempt was made by the Panthers' leadership to mobilize the public opinion or bring them on the roads. Contrarily, Bhim Singh visited Andhra Pradesh a number of times to express solidarity with those who in AP were demanding and struggling for Telangana State. Besides, he sat on dharna at Jantar Mantar for the same cause. He also held a day-long fast at Jantar Mantar. Also for the same cause. What does the agenda 2012 envisage" The agenda 2012, which is styled as "New Year Resolution", envisages a mechanism that, according to Bhim Singh, would "meet the aspirations of the people of all the three regions, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh". "Reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir is on the top of agenda for 2012 to ensure justice, peace, equality and equitable development for all the three regions. Positive side of reorganization has been that Ladakhis fully supported the agenda, Kashmiri leaders never opposed it and the people of Jammu have been fully supporting the cause. The core group of the party has decided to gear up the battle in support of reorganization from the streets right up to the Supreme Court," he, among other things, said while disclosing the contours of the agenda 2012. There is nothing wrong with the agenda 2012. It is a fine agenda, which needs immediate implantation. The agenda has the potential of meeting the aspirations of the neglected people of Jammu province and Ladakh region. It is an agenda based on the cardinal principles of democracy. It is also based on the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is an unnatural formulation, as also on the fact that there is no love lost between Jammu and Kashmir and between Kashmir and Ladakh. The state needs reorganization. There should be no doubt about it. But the fundamental question to be asked is: Will the agenda 2012 meet the fate the agenda 2011 met? It is for Bhim Singh to answer this pertinent question. As for the people of Jammu province, they believe, and rightly so, that the agenda 2012 is one more attempt of the Panthers Party to hoodwink them. |
