Dr Farooq Ko Gussa Kyon Atta Hai? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 29: Dr. Farooq Abdullah is visibly angry and his anger is this time directed against the Congress high command. Irritated by the local Congress clamour for rotational chief ministership in the State, Dr. Farooq has told the Congress high command to come out clear on the issue. "If you want to end the alliance midway then tell us clearly", a visibly disturbed elder Abdullah told the Congress high command as reported by a national news agency. It is strange that the elder Abdullah being such an experienced politician should have resorted to such a threatening against his allies and that too trying to mount pressure at them at the highest level. It is a general perception among by the Congress both at the State and the central levels that the party stands to lose completely if the post of the Chief Minister is not rotated in their favour after the three year term of the coalition Government comes to an end on January 5. There is open dissension within the local Congress both at the ground and the middle rung in the State about the party continuing to play as 'B team' of the alliance for another three years. Most experienced Congress workers feel the party would do miserably if the present political dispensation in the State continued as it has been for the last three years. Except for a few senior ministers who favour the status quo on the political stage, almost all senior Congress ministers have conveyed their sentiments on the issue to the Congress high command. The Congress high command is still open on the issue of the rotation of the Chief Minister's post and the impression conveyed by the NC that the issue has already been clinched and closed is mere propaganda. This has been proved by the anger exhibited by the elder Abdullah. The president of NC has more than one reason for his anger. He has a clear feeling about the political scenario in the State. Dr. Abdullah knows fairly well that his son and State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has not lived up to the expectations of the Congress high command and the common man. He also knows fairly well that the Congress cannot afford to support the existing arrangement in the State at its own cost. Insiders say the Congress is seriously weighing the options before committing itself firmly on the issue of rotation. Dr. Farooq Abdullah has now directed his anger against the Congress high command and the anger is calibrated. It is the sort of political blackmail only Dr. Abdullah knows how best to orchestrate. But, the problem is that anger and blackmail is always a double-edged weapon. It can boomerang. Given the present political scenario in the State, it is highly unlikely that the latest salvo from Dr. Abdullah will work. |
