Reshuffle, expansion of cabinet: Adjustments by rotation…..? | Few incumbent ministers may swap positions with sitting MLAs | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 29: Even as the speculations about reshuffle and expansion of the cabinet having been put on hold are doing rounds, but as and when it place, the move will see some major and unexpected changes in the cabinet structure. While some more faces are due to be inducted from within both the pcoalition partners, some incumbent ministers may see swapping the positions with sitting MLAs, most of them senior in political hierarchy in both National Conference and Congress. Sources said even though both the parties are giving serious though to the over due step of change in the face of cabinet, the high command of both NC as well as are thinking on the lines of not only changing the portfolios of the ministers but also making some changes in terms of adjusting and accommodating those who have been waiting to be in the coveted positions for long. While there are aspirants and deserving contenders who in the queue to become the ministers, the consideration will be given to the track record of political performance and their individual contribution to nurture and nourish the parties, sources added. Sources said Congress leadership, upon whom the responsibility of effecting changes in the ensuing cabinet reshuffle has been entrusted by the high command is seriously giving though to accommodate some MLAs in place of the existing ministers. This would in addition to the tow seats vacant in the cabinet for the party for which the persons have been more or less decided, sources said further. Party leadership is also contemplating that the ministerial berths is not and should not be treated by the incumbent ministers as a matter of their right instead it needs to be done on the basis of rotation so that other MLAs who have also worked hard and waited for long could also be given chance to have this privilege. The idea and concept of accommodating sitting MLAs against the present ministers has also been necessitated from the fact that reports of non performance or 'undesired' performance has well been registered by the leadership and this has been conveyed right up to quarters at higher level including the party high command. The latter, sources said has also taken cognizance of the 'unsatisfactory' performance in all respects by some ministers which is why a nod has been given to 'replace' them and substitute with 'appropriate' choices from within the party MLAs. In other words if the move of some MLAs swapping position with ministers, few ministers may be seen off soon and no minister must take this for granted that they will remain glued to the ministry for entire six years, sources added. |
