| J&K Bank Calendar to project virgin tourist places of state | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Dec 30 (KNS): To project multidimensional beauty of the state, Jammu and Kashmir Bank has come up with a novel idea this year. The Bank has incorporated pictures of 12 tourist places in the Calendar 2012 which have remained out of focus till now.
The Calendar starts with picture of Ashapati Thanalla Mountains. The picture presents a view of the beautiful Ashapati Ridge line, while on the way from Bhaderwah to Chamba. The February page of the Calendar shows Sumchan village, the last inhibited place before the famous sapphire mines of Jammu, located in the Kishtwar Himalayas in the ancient trade route between Zanskar and Jammu.
As spring approaches, the Calendar shows a beautiful image of Semthan, gateway to Jammu region from South Kashmir. The April page contains picture of lush and sprawling green Doodh Pathri “Valley of milk.”
The May page of the Calendar contains picture of Sansar, a wide saucer-shaped meadow covered with grass, against the backdrop of woods of majestic Himalayan Cedar trees. Picture of Daksum, tucked away in a densely forested gorge at 2438-m altitude is on the June page of the Calendar.
Image of a hill station situated on a plateau in the Shiwalik belt of the Himalayas is on the July page while picture of famous Mushko Valley in Ladakh is on August page of the Calendar. Mushko is also the base for the famous Tiger Hill.
Picture of Sadhna Top, situated at 11000-feet altitude in north Kashmir and gateway to Karnah Valley, is on September page. The top witnesses a snowfall of 10 to 15 feet during winters and remains lush green during summers. On the October page is the image of Tulail village, a heritage village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district near LoC.
With winter approaching, the November page of the Calendar contains picture of Chishoti, a village in Padder area of Jammu, known for its Sapphire mines. The last page of the Calendar contains image of Tsokar Lake. Toskar is a salt lake located near Rupso in Leh. Spotting a white water lake surrounded by several hot water springs at about 5000-m altitude is a nature’s marvel.
“Our Calendar goes to foreign investors as well as to other states of the country. The Calendar 2012 captures the ethereal beauty J&K is bestowed with and in particular the abodes of wonder that have so far remained obscure, even to most locals and explorers from outside,” the Bank chairman, Mushtaq Ahmad told KNS.
“The idea is to represent beauty of J&K beyond contours of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg,” he added.
The J&K Bank publishes more than seven lakh calendars per year and this year the calendar will be available at all the branches of the Bank in the first week of January.
