| ISM doctors call off hunger strike on Mangat's assurance | | | Jammu, Jan 13
On the assurances of Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma and Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly Mr. Akbar Lone, ISM Doctors who were sitting on dharna and hunger strike for the last few days called off their strike this evening.
Mr. Sharma offered juice to the striking doctors to call off the hunger strike and assured that a committee would be constituted including ISM doctors to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister to derive strategy to tackle their employment problems.
Minister said that under National Rural Health Mission project implementation plan a number of posts for doctors both in ISM and Allopathies are expected to be created in phased manner and most of them would be absorbed against these from next year. He said government has already mooted a proposal to the Union Government for sanction to this package at the earliest keeping in view the special status of the state and growing unemployment of trained doctors.
Director ISM Dr. Kabir was also present, on the occasion.
