66 CCTVS in Jammu & Katra to be maintained annual contract

Jammu, Dec 30: Government sources said that the police authorities have decided to give 66 CCTVS installed as security measures in ‘security grid’ in Jammu and holy town of Katra to put on floating contracts for annual maintenance.
Government sources said that the police authorities have decided to give 66 CCTVS to some company for carrying out annual maintenance keeping in view of maintaining the vital part of security grid i.e. the CCTVs fit and functional and for achieving the desired results.
Explaining the need for installing CCTVS the an officer on promised anonymity said that Katra and Jammu City have emerged as very important and sensitive spots as being base for the year round pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. He said that since about one crore pilgrims make it to the holy shrine per year it has become mandatory for the Government to upgrade the security grid in Katra town.
He said efforts were afoot to install additional CCTVS at the Railway stations and bus stands in order to eliminate the possibility of a terrorist strike.
In reply to a question he said that out of the 66 CCTVS that have to be covered under comprehensive annual maintenance contract of which 33 were installed in Katra and the remaining in Jammu city.
Meanwhile authorities have appealed all those associated with affairs of religious places spread over vast stretches of land are being told to install more than three CCTVs to catch the movement of people visiting the religious places. In addition to this places entertainment including the cinema halls, bars, convention centres and conference halls too are being asked to install CCTVs gadgets while Internet café too have been asked to do the same.
The security agencies, especially the police have decided to bank on CCTVs for monitoring the activities of terrorists and criminals in the cities and towns.
Official sources said that instructions have gone to the banks and those running business establishments in malls and shopping complexes and centres in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar to install CCT VS so that detection of crime and subversive violence besides elimination of anti social an anti-national elements became easy.
