EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, while addressing the National Conference (NC) workers at Nawa-i-Subah, here today said that the achievements of the present Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in all developmental fronts has frustrated those elements who during their own tenure failed to execute any people friendly programmes in the State.
He said that it is only during the tenure of present government the successful panchayat elections throughout the State were conducted in which unprecedented number of people participated and elected their Panchs and Sarpanchs. This is the confidence which people have reposed in the Government, he added.
Mr. Sagar said that with the construction of flyovers, bridges, strengthening of network of roads to far-flung areas, establishing of new power projects, providing drinking water and other infrastructural facilities to the people, the present government under the dynamic leadership of Omar Abdullah has proved its credential. The increasing popularity of Omar Abdullah by implementing various development programmes successfully has exposed these elements, who are now bent to spread various kinds of anti-developmental propaganda. He questioned their contribution during their tenure when they were in power.
The Minister said that Chief Minister himself monitored at high level the position with regard to availability of essential commodities and electricity and other facilities to the people. He said ministers are conducting tours throughout the valley to redress the grievances of the people. The response has shown at all levels of the administration is exemplary in the nature. He said all heads of departments have been instructed to remain in constant touch with the people and address their problems without any delay.
Mr. Sagar said provision of Public Service Guarantee Act (PSGA), which was recently promulgated in the State has made it mandatory that the applications of the people in six important departments should be disposed off without any delay in a time bound manner and the erring officers will be penalized if the concerned applicant is not provided service within the time frame.
The Rural Development Minister said that by issuing statements about the shortage of power by such political party, which itself is responsible to stop mega power projects like Sablakote in Jammu and Kashmir is really a lamentable. He said present Government is fully committed to take all possible measures to provide power, drinking water and other essential services to the people in every nook and corner of the State. He said even power department has been advised to reschedule the power to ensure availability of power supply during the peak hours to the people, he maintained.
Mr. Sagar said that the present Government is working hard to enhance generation capacity in power sector and added that in coming years the Jammu and Kashmir will not be only self sufficient in power, but will be able to sell it to other States as well. He said Chief Minister has already announced that the Salal and Uri projects will be taken over even if State Government has to pay for the same so that it enriches the resource pool of the State. He advised all those elements who are spreading different negative perception in the name of electricity and other essential services to the people to desist from their clandestine propagandist approach and see the reality on ground, said Mr. Sagar.
