New Delhi betrayed Sher-e-Kashmir's aspirations: Khalida Shah
12/31/2011 12:13:06 AM

Asif Iqbal Naik
KISHTWAR, Dec 30: The elder daughter of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and sister of Union Minister for New and Renewable Resources Energy Minister Dr. Farooq Adbullah today said that her father late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah favored complete accession of Jammu and Kashmir by taking the majority of the people of the state on board.
While recounting the days of struggle, elder daughter of Sher-e-Kashmir Ms Khalida Shah said her father favoured people of Jammu and Kashmir, but said that her father's dream was shattered after New Delhi betrayed him by backtracking from all those promises that were made to him by the then Prime Minister of India Pundit Jawal Lal Nehru after instrument of accession was signed with the Union of India.
She said that if New Delhi had fulfilled his promises the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had been different all together. She said that her father never bowed before the Union of India and preferred to remain in jail for several years. She said that her father was aware about the facts that the future of Jammu and Kashmir will be better with New Delhi as compared to Islamabad, but said that New Delhi not only plays with the sentiments of Sher-e-Kashmir, but also with the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a result of which the Jammu and Kashmir which is relatively known for its beauty became the graveyard of so many innocent peoples. She said that it was due to bad policies of successive governments at New Delhi, even after 64 years the Kashmir dispute is still unsolved. She said that if New Delhi has agreed upon the conditions agreed by them, the situation at present would have been different all together. She said that after New Delhi put his father behind the bars, they converted the post of Prime Minister to Chief Minister and President to Governor which creates more anger among the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a result of which the fringes between New Delhi and people of the Jammu and Kashmir starts widening on each passing day.
To a question regarding that why her father late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah preferred to sit on the chair of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after being released from jail in lure of an agreement with the then Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi commonly known as "Indra-Sheikh "accord, Mrs. Kahlida Shah said that her father was compelled to sign the deal with Mrs. Indra Gandhi since the financial condition of state has gone worsened and had reach at the verge of collapse. She said that in case Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah hasn't taken the reign of the state in his own hands at that time, the people might face the starvation. She said that his father keeps his head high in his entire life and instead of having lust for power, he (Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah) preferred to remain in jail. She said that father could have been easily signed the final instrument of accession with union of India, but said that doesn't happen since her father always gave preference to the wishes and aspiration of people of Jammu and Kashmir. She said that Sher-e-Kashmir during all his life fought for the cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir which is to give them the right to choose their future. She said that the path for resolution of Kashmir dispute set by her father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is the best map for redressal of long pending Kashmir dispute and said that time has come for union of India to fulfill all those promises made by them with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah so that long lasting peace could be availed in Jammu and Kashmir, otherwise she feared that guns would continue to blaze in Jammu and Kashmir which will ultimately take the lives of the innocent people---- (To be continued)
