Lokpal Logjam: Congress is down and out | Rajya Sabha Fiasco | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 30: "Today is the black day in the parliamentary history of India. The Congress murdered democracy in midnight, like the UPA Government murdered democracy in the midnight nearly six months ago by unleashing a reign of senseless brutalities against Baba Ramdev and his followers, including women and children, who had gathered at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi, to force the Congress and the UPA to adopt measures aimed at bringing back to India black money stashed in foreign banks. What the Congress did today was worse than what Indira Gandhi did while imposing emergency in the country in 1975. The Congress today blackened it face beyond recognition and the people of India will teach lesson to the undemocratic Congress party. History would never forgive the Congress. The Congress is leading a minority government and, hence, it has no moral, political and constitutional right to rule the country even for moment. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has disgraced the country by allowing his ministers to outrage the nation by showing utter disrespect to the opposition, to the parliament and to the people, must put in his papers right now. The President of India should sack Manmohan Singh and dismiss his corrupt and anti-democratic government in case the failed Prime Minister refuses to resign. We are shocked. We are feeling outraged. We are feeling highly disturbed and appalled. The Congress and the UPA have ended democracy. The Prime Minister, who is Leader of the Rajya Sabha, sat in the House for hours together and watched the ugly drama enacted by his own ministers and the Congress MPs, did not intervene; he must tender resignation. The ministers like Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal and his junior colleagues Harish Rawat and Rajiv Shukla and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Narayan Sami whose duty it was to ensure smooth conduct of the House and explain the government point of view on the proposed Lokpal created scenes unbecoming of them. The Congress has lost the way. The Congress's ugly face stands exposed; its politics of duplicity stands exposed; it was never interested in a strong, effective and autonomous Lokpal. The Congress insulted the Parliament and the opposition not putting the Lokpal bill to vote. We were prepared to sit in the House for whole of the night to discuss the moved bill and take final decision on it, but the Congress and the Prime Minister manipulated the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who suddenly declared that it would be unconstitutional to allow the House to function beyond 12 O'clock; and who declared that it was impossible for him to run the House as there was utter chaos prevailing there and said it would be better if we go back to our houses. The Congress is in minority in the Rajya Sabha and, hence, it must quit the office. The Congress is in minority in the Lok Sabha and, hence, the Prime Minister must resign. The Congress and the UPA do not have even simple majority of 272 members in the Lok Sabha and, hence, the Prime Minister must resign. The official bill seeking constitutional status for the Lokpal collapsed because the Congress and the UPA didn't have the required numbers and, hence, the Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government must resign. The Congress-led UPA Government has lost majority in the Lok Sabha and it is in minority in the Rajya Sabha, how is it that the Congress in the government; Manmohan Singh must resign forthwith. The Congress doesn't enjoy the confidence even of its own allies like Trinamool Congress (TMC) of Mamata Bannerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of Lalu Prasad Yadav and, hence, Manmohan Singh must resign forthwith. (TMC, SP, BSP and RJD are supporting the government, with the former part of the government and the remaining three extending support to the Congress-led government from outside.) The Congress and Prime Minister Manmohan Sinh have brought disgrace to the country and to whole Indian political system and constitutional institutions and, hence, they have forfeited their right to rule the country". Who made these statements? When were these statements made? At what time the statements made? These statements were made by the opposition parties. These statements were made between 12 O'clock and 1.30 a.m. today. In other words, the defeated Congress and the defeated Prime Minister conspired against the Indian parliamentary democracy in the midnight to remain in power; it conspired when the nation was either asleep or watching with disgust what the Congress ministers had been doing to subvert the parliamentary democracy to see to it that voting on the highly controversial, ineffective and anti-people Lokpal bill didn't take place. There is doubt whatever that the Congress has lost the game. It is now down and out. |
