Should party stop taking people of Jammu for granted……? | 2011 fateful year for BJP | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 30: Notwithstanding the bold face and tall claims it continues to make even in hard times, 2011 has been a fateful year for state unit of BJP that witnessed many unpleasant political developments for almost entire year. From a buoyed mood and spirits of noteworthy strength of 11 in the House gained through 2008 'game changer' Assembly polls, the party is now reduced to paltry four MLAs in the House, others having been disqualified by the High Command. More importantly, the party has lost the trust and confidence of the people which the latter reposed during 2008 polls, all for the sake of Jammu cause, only to be reciprocated in just reverse mode. While ruling Congress has not been able to make much dent or consolidate visibly in terms of governance and fulfilling the promises they made with Jammu people, the opposition BJP instead of cashing in on the poor 'report card' of ruling rivals remained entangled in own cobwebs and issues which only brought disrepute to the party and lowered its image in the eyes of even hardcore supporters throughout the year. The roaring and reverberating impact BJP MLAs tried to make inside the Assembly on account of their double digit strength in a united manner gradually fizzled out to a feeble and individualistic voices last year, with almost all MLAs instead in raising the Jammu oriented issues in unison , were seen going in different directions. This approach eventually saw the whole lot disintegrated, cross voting episode during the Legislative Council elections in April this year being the turning point for leaving the party in tatters. Some MLAs indulging in cross voting during the polls proved to be last coffin in the already disintegrated and divided party unit, plagued badly by internal petty politics of groupism and factionalism. What proved to be a huge embarrassment for the High Command at national level was it all happened when the party's stalwart and former president Rajnath Singh led a team of other senior leaders to state for visiting the three regions in order to take own assessment of ground situation and aspirations of the people , something which was seen as a parallel political exercise of the Union government's move of sending three Interlocutors to the trouble torn state. Cross voting by party MLAs came to fore when the Central team of party barely reached Srinagar. The news certainly came a rude shock to the party leaders who were on a 'fact finding' political mission. The developments that followed shattered the state unit of BJP further only to send shock waves and disappointment to the people of Jammu in general and die hard supporters in particular. First parading move for identifying the 'real' culprits of cross voting offence followed by suspension of few and expulsion of just one member and after bickering ridden period of accusations and counter accusations, washing of dirty linen in public and many more such unfortunate developments further disillusioned the people of Jammu to the xtent that they have now lost trust completely in the party , not to speak of believing its claims. |
