| Despite Xinjiang Heat:China prefers Pak to India | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 31: Despite the fact that Islamic terrorist groups,trained in Pakistan,have been indulging in subversive violence including killing of innocent civilians in the Xinjiang province of China during the last about two years Beijing has maintained a calculated silence in order to ensure that its relations with its all weather friend,Pakistan,were not soiled.
However,Beijing has simply endorsed the decision of the establishment in Xingjiang favouring crackdown on the terrorists groups.In order to mount pressure on the terrorist groups the Government in Xinjiang has increased police deployment in the province where the Islamic extremists have been posing a great threat to the communist culture of China by starting building scores of mosques.
Since July last the terrorists have intensified attacks on civilians and Government officials and reports indicate that during the last five months more than 100 civilians have been killed and about 200 injured in the terrorist attacks.Over 120 terrorists have been killed and nearly 200 arrested in the police crackdown.
Beijing has held extremists,who got trained in the terror camps in Pakistan,responsible for conducting these attacks on civilians. The provincial Government has gone to the extent of blaming the groups of militants,who got trained by East Turkistan Islamic Movement in Pakistan, for these violent attacks.
Following a pledge taken by the Xinjiang officials that they would intensify the crackdown on terrorists more than 10 militants were killed and four others were injured in an area outside the Hotan city three days ago.These terrorists had plans of resorting to kidnappings,extortion and killings.The officials have vowed to show no mercy to the trouble makers so that peace was restored the province which once was famous for a trade link between undivided India and China-Tibet belt.
What is intriguing is the way Beijing,at times,contradicts the assessment of the Xinjiang provincial officials by conveying to Islamabad that those responsible for terrorist violence in Xinjiang had not received training in arms camps in Pakistan.This strategy is being adopted by China to keep Pakistan in good humour so that the 35-year old Sino-Pakistan agreement on friendship was not affected thereby allowing Beijing to gain foothold in areas in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir.
Equally amazing is the way Beijing,which has been troubled by the terrorist activities in one of its provinces of Xinjiang,has preferred to fortify its ties with Islamabad instead of joining hands with New Delhi in its fight against terror.And no less is surprising is the way China has opted for a close military tie up with Pakistan instead with India.Possibly all this is being done to get a chance to set up military bases in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir that could take care of any Rissian or the American military adventure. |
