Separatists amused and amazed over Chidambaram's informal invite? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 31: Kashmiri separatists feel amazed over the latest statement of the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, in which he has said that he Government was ready to hold talks with the separatists. Chidambaram has said "if they are ready for talks we are ready for talks." Commenting on Chidambaram's statement a senior leader of All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, said that during the year 2011 the Government of India has been "talking about talks in vacuum." He said on August 15, 2011 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had told the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort that he was willing to hold talks with all shades of political opinion including those sitting on the other side of the fence. But said "we have not received any formal invitation for talks from the centre. The Government of India has never set the format for the dialogue which it intends to have with us." His colleague, Molvi Abbas Ansari said that "by airing views on talks dos not mean that the centre is serious about reopening of the channels of dialogue." Bhat said that "we have been always in favour of settling the Kashmir issue through the process of dialogue and in this context we have had a number of meetings with the two Indian Prime Ministers between 2003 and 2006." He said since 2006 there has been no effort on the part of the Government of India to resume the process of parleys. He said by simply saying that "we are ready for talks" does not mean the Government is sending any formal invitation to "us." Bhat made it clear that the Government of India should understand the basic issues connecting the Kashmir dispute and once it understands it the Government will have to make the parleys a tripartite affair. Molvi Ansari and Bhat made it clear that "we are for holding talks not only with India but with Pakistan too because Islamabad is a party to the dispute." The separatist leaders wanted the Government of India to modify its stand on the process of dialogue and instead of talking about the talks in "air" it should come out with some concrete proposals for the dialogue.(KIP)
