Police "good work" in 2011: 37 chain snatching incidents, only 18 solved | Thefts, incidents of cops browbeating public witnessed increase in 2011 | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 31: Police reflected the "good work" done by them in a press note issued here today on the last day of 2001, saying out of 37 incidents of chain snatching in the city, they had solved "only" 18. Despite the heavy presence of cops, the writ of chain snatchers ran large on city roads, with women preferring to stay indoors during night hours, or avoiding secluded lanes and bylanes even during the day time. But in the handout, police proudly announced that they had solved 18 out of 37 chain snatching incidents. The incidents of thefts and cops browbeating general public also witnessed a jump in 2011. A goldsmith's both shoulders were made non-functional by Janipura police during his torture but no action was taken against the erring police officers. At checking points, cops are often seen intimidating general public for no fault of theirs. The handout said that police had worked out at least 13 burglary cases and apprehended the accused. Action was also taken against the drug addicts and an inter-state gang of drug peddlers was busted in the city, with the arrest of two Pathankte-based kingpins from Maheshpura, Bakshi Nagar. Police also claimed to have busted a charas smugglers' gang with the recovery of 10.5 kg of the contraband from three persons. 10 kilograms of heroin was also recovered from a narco-smuggler, leading to the busting of an international gang of narco-smugglers, the handout added. In the handout, police also clained to have arrested several criminals and absconders in 2011 during enhanced vigil at checking points.
