| 10288 Anganwari centres functional in valley | | | Srinagar, Jan 13 About 2.59 lakh children upto 6-years of age and expectant and lactating mothers are presently being provided nutrition, pre-schooling and health cover facilities through 10288 Anganwari centres including 4500 newly opened centres functioning in Kashmir valley. An amount of Rs. 16 crore has been earmarked for purchasing of nutrition for the current fiscal. This was stated at a high level meeting of Social Welfare department convened by Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nisar Ali here today to review the functioning and performance of the department as also to devise strategy for further streamlining its functioning. The meeting was attended by Director Social Welfare, Kashmir, Ms. Dilshad Khan, Deputy Directors and programme officers besides District Social Welfare officers of Kashmir division. Reviewing implementation of Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) the meeting was informed that RS. 16 crore have been provided as financial succour to 1.5 lakh physically challenged persons in valley so far during the current fiscal. Besides 40,000 aged persons stand covered under National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS). Addressing the meeting, the Minister exhorted upon the officers to conduct door-to-door survey to identify the disabled persons so that they could be provided necessary financial assistance. He said innovative measures are under way to make the functioning of the department more effective and in tune with the urges and aspirations of people. He called for periodical checking of Anganwari centres and other units of department to ensure accountability and punctuality in these centres. He stressed for involving local population to monitor judicious and proper distribution of nutrition to the deserving children in their respective areas.
