‘Probe factors that led to poor results in govt schools’
1/1/2012 10:14:45 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Jan 1 (KNS): The teachers of the Kashmir division have expressed serious concern over the suspension of 18 headmasters by the
government for showing zero percent results in the recently declared
regular matriculation examination, appealing to the chief minister Omar Abdullah to constitute a committee to look into the factors that led to poor roll and results in these schools.
“No doubt there are some schools that have shown poor performance but by and large the results are satisfactory. The authorities need to delve deep to trace the causes of poor performance. Before initiating any action against the heads of the institutions showing zero percent results, the government should have collected the necessary information about the roll of students, school building, locality surrounding the school, family background of students, infrastructure structure and staff strength,” a delegation of teachers told KNS.
“In GHS, Zaindar Mohalla, there was only one student in class 10th in the session who failed, giving the school zero per cent result. Had he/she passed, he/she would have given 100 percent result to the school. The schools with good number of students would never register zero percent result and the heads of these institutions will not naturally attract disciplinary action like suspension,” they added.
The teachers claimed that almost all the schools showing zero percent results had meager enrolment of either one or two or three students in the class 10th. “So who is responsible for so poor and meager roll in these schools locals, teachers, head of the institution or the government? Why should the heads of these schools alone bear brunt of zero result? Why not the whole department
from minister to teacher?” they asked.
The teachers appealed to the chief minister Omar Abdullah to constitute a committee to look into the factors that led to poor roll and results in these schools and initiate punitive action against those found responsible after receiving the report from committee so that accountability is maintained at all levels in the hierarchy of the department.
