PIL for traffic regulation in Jammu
DB orders removal of idle vehicles from General Bus-Stand

Jammu, January-01 (JNF):- The High Court today ordered removal of idle vehicles from general bus stand in a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking regulation of traffic in Jammu. Divisional Commissioner, Transport Commissioner, IG Traffic, VC JDA, DC Jammu, SSP Traffic Jammu & Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Jammu were present in the Court.
Advocate DC Raina assisted Advocate Pooja Raina brought to the notice of the Court condition of General Bus Stand where lot of buses which have parked either to carry out repairs or for no reason and that District Administration should take notice of the said situation of take appropriate action to clear the congestion in the Bus-Stand. Sr. Adv also submitted that the General Bus Stand having been located in the heart of City and people from every part of the country used the said Bus Stand and the condition of the Bus Stand should be improved in order to give a better face lift to the City of Jammu.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice FM Ibrahim Kalifulla and Justice Virender Singh directed the High Power Committee to take notice of the present condition of the General Bus Stand and take necessary steps for improving the basic facilities to be provided to the commuters apart from removing the idle vehicles which otherwise create un-necessary congestion in the General Bus Stand.
The Divisional Commissioner Chairman High Power Committee who was present in the Court assured that appropriate steps will be taken for improving the conditions in the General Bus-Stand. He also submitted that there is already a proposal to improve the General Bus-Stand Jammu at a project cost of Rs 75 Crore and the JDA has been entrusted with the said project. The Divisional Commissioner also submitted that the said project will provide better conditions in the Bus Stand and will provide sufficient space for the moment and parking not last than 1500 buses in the improved Bus-Stand.
Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Jammu SC Sawhney who was present in the Court has assured that necessary steps are being taken for installing the signals in the identified 35 locations and that the same would be implemented in the month of February, 2012. Upon this Division Bench directed High Power Committee headed by the Divisional Commissioner and monitored by the Deputy Commissioner to continue the implement the traffic management scheme in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic inside the city of Jammu. Division Bench also directed the High Power Committee to submit the report about the steps taken in this regard on the next date of hearing.
