JKTDC to pay 25 pc DA to its employees | | | Srinagar, Jan 2 (KNS): Overwhelmed with the tourist response and more than Rs 3 crore rupees profit, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation has bestowed its employees with 25 percent DA, becoming the only Corporation in the state to offer DA to its employees. “We had a spectacular tourist inflow in 2011 which earned us Rs 32 crore against Rs 19 crore in 2008-09,” Managing Director, Satish Nehru told KNS. He said that the Corporation earned a net profit of Rs 3.5 crore in the recently ended year which has opened doors to up gradation of JKTDC facilitations. Pertinently JKTDC had a very tough 2010 when the Corporation was almost at the verge of closure with its employees hitting roads demanding their salaries. The situation had turned more awkward when the reports of bureaucrats and senior officers of the state administration occupying the JKTDC huts and hotel rooms without paying rent for it surfaced. However, the Corporation according to MD has managed to get again on track. “We have been able to reconstruct the historical Lala Rukh restaurant which had been closed 22 years ago,” Nehru said, adding that JKTDC has decided to construct new hotels in Sonamarg and Yousmarg. “We want to provide modern accommodation to our guests in Sonamarg and Yousmarg also,” Nehru told KNS. He also said that the work for reconstruction of cafeteria in Tangmarg which was set on fire by protestors in 2010 has also been started and has already reached to plinth level. The MD said that the Corporation is now receiving payments from the departments for occupying their facilities for officers and guests.
