Legal Metrology Department Rajouri conducts extensive checking | Challans 74 defaulters, recover Rs. 30600 as fine | | RAJOURI, JANUARY 02- As a sequel to its drive to protect consumer interest, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department Rajouri led by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology M. A. Mughal conducted extensive checking at Sunder Bani, Gujjar Mandi Rajouri and Darhal area. During the inspection, more than 93 establishments dealing with different trades like Karyana, Halwais, Hardware, Wine Shop, Kerosene Oil dealer, Ration dealer were checked and 17 of them found violating different sections and rules of J&K W/M Enf Act 1997. All the 17 challaned cases were compounded on spot and an amount of Rs. 11300/- was recovered from the defaulters. At Poonch district, 57 traders were booked in Surankote and Buffliaz area for using un-recertified weights and Measures, Weighing and Measuring instruments by the same team of officers. All the 57 challaned cases were compounded on spot and fined Rs. 19300. Besides, an amount of Rs. 31264/- was recovered by way of stamping fee in Poonch district and Rs. 12921/- were collected as stamping fee in Rajouri district during the month of December 2011. The department has appealed the consumers to purchase goods on verified and calibrated weight and also check MRP, name of the commodity, packing date and complete address of the packer/manufacturer.
