18 cross to other side of LoC | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR , January 2 : : Not a single Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) guest arrived here on January 2 while 18 Kashmiris crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the first Karvan-e-Aman bus in 2012. However, four PoK residents, who arrived here earlier returned to their homes after completing stay in Kashmir, official sources told here this afternoon. They said the number of PoK guests, visiting Kashmir valley, has declined in view of the harsh winter since October last year. Not a single PoK guest arrived here in the Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, they said. However, four Kashmiris, who had gone to other side of the LoC returned here after completing stay with their relatives, separated in 1947. Sources said 18 fresh Kashmiris crossed over to other side after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge, on foot at Kaman post, the last Indian Military post, in Uri sector this afternoon. About 750 PoK guests visited their relatives in the Valley during 2011 while about 250 from here crossed over to other side of the LoC. The “Aman Bus” service was postponed four times during 2011 because of landslides in PoK on April 21 and Eid-ul-Fitr on September 1, Eid-ul-Azha November 7 and Muharram on December 5. Highest number of 60 PoK guests visited Valley in summer three times on June 16, July 7 and 17. The service was started to enable families divided in 1947 to meet each other after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh flagged off first bus on April 7, 2005 after both the government agreed to allow the travel of permanent residents living on both sides of the LoC on “travel permits” instead of International passport. However, travel of any person is cleared only after both the governments agreed when their names are cleared by intelligence agencies from both the sides.
