Kashmir division trounces Jammu by 5 wkts | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 2: After losing their first match yesterday, the Kashmir division boys scripted a convincing 5-wkt win over Jammu division in the ongoing State Level Inter-Division U-16 Boys Cricket Tournament at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today. Winning the toss and batting first, Jammu division scored 137 for 6 in the stipulated 25 overs. Nipun Verma was the top scorer with 24 runs, while Satnam, Salman and Shubam Pundir contributed 23, 20 and 13 runs to the total respectively. Umar took 2 wickets for Kashmir division, while Saleem and Zahid claimed one wicket each. In reply, Kashmir division chased the target easily in 22.4 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Umar Farooq Gudu scored a splendid half century (51*), while Umar Nabi (20) and Saleem (15) not out were the other contributors. Virtul Bakshi, Laba Ram, Anuj and Tayyab claimed one wicket apiece for Jammu division. The match was officiated by Mukesh Sharma, Jagtar Singh, Madan Mohan and Riyaz. It is pertinent to mention here that the tournament was as part of annual calendar of activities to pick the team to participate in 57th National School Games to be held in Chandigarh from December 6. SS Bali, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports was chairman of organizing committee, while Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu was the organizing secretary.
