Shocking! Policing in Jammu from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm?
1/3/2012 12:04:39 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: The routine timing of policing here in winter capital seems to have become from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm. Notwithstanding the fact that policing is round the clock job, the Men in Khaakhi looks as if following the timings of Babus working in different government departments, who have to be on job from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Though the senior police officials including SSP, Jammu, Anand Jain, after short time periods have tried to boast that 'all is well' and "crime rate is quite under control" but the reality is other way round. Policing here seems to be at God's mercy as none of police officers especially Station House Officers (SHOs) and in-charge Police Posts are seen on roads or in their respective jurisdictions either early morning or during late night hours.
Reliable sources in police department revealed that "most of the police officers come to Police Stations/Police Posts late in the morning and try to slip by late evening. And most of the time VVIP movement is cited for remaining absent from their respective police stations/police posts. Leaving apart few officers, rest all are 'well in time' back to their homes."
A late night survey, conducted ET team revealed that most of the police checking points/Nakas raised in and around the city areas were without police personnel. Furthermore, at some checking points, wherever four to five cops are deployed, only one or two were seen on duty and rest best known to the senior police officials. However, an exceptional day was there i.e. on December 31st, all the checking points were seen filled up adequate police personnel as the senior police officers were personally supervising the policing on roads.
Sources in police further revealed that "even police patrol vehicles are seen off road during late nights and there is no senior police officer to check and enquire about the same. If such an attitude of police continue for some more time, there are apprehensions of an increase in crime rate especially theft/burglaries."
"See, there is always duty roaster chart prepared for even senior police officers, who have to make night checking to ensure proper policing. But the same is not being properly handled. And the result is sheer indiscipline among the subordinate officers," disclosed sources further adding that "at certain occasions, even the reports of some cops while on duty found in inebriated conditions but such cases were put in cold storage as it will bring bad name to police."
