Fisheries Department organizes Awareness Camp | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JANUARY 03- The Department of Fisheries, District Jammu in collaboration with Regional Fish Farmers Development Agency Jammu organized a one day awareness camp on various aspects of fish culture at Bishnah here today. A large number of Fish Farmers and local people of the area attended the camps. The farmers were made aware about the importance and benefits of fish culture. Various lectures on innovative techniques for enhancing the fish production was delivered by the S. S. Sharma Chief Project Officer, RFFDA, Joginder Lal Assistant Director Fisheries, Jammu and Sanjesh Gupta Project Officer, RFFDA. The main objective of the camp was to acquaint the fish farmers with the latest techniques on fish culture practices as it has emerged as a viable economic activity as well as source of employment for the rural masses. The farmers were given literature/ handouts on fish culture techniques. The queries raised by the farmers were responded by the senior officers on spot. The lectures were also delivered on composite fish culture and integrating fish culture with Horticulture, Agriculture, Floriculture, Apiculture, Dairy and Paddy cum fish culture. The progressive farmers of the area also spoke on the occasion and briefed the gathering about the achievements and benefits accrued from this vocation. Some farmers also reported that they have produced seven quintals of fish worth Rs. 56000/= per two Kanal water area in one year. The participants were also made aware about various schemes (State/ Central) of the department and were advised to avail the benefits of the same. . K.S. Charak Joint Director Fisheries (Projects) Jammu Division presided over the function and impressed upon the participants to adopt fish culture practices on scientific lines.
