1/3/2012 10:04:49 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 3 : Jammu and Kashmir has spent Rs.2,330 crore on buying electricity from the northern grid in the ongoing financial year, while its total revenue realisation by December-end stood at Rs.722 crore, a gap of Rs.1,608 crore, an official said.

According to a statement by a government spokesperson Monday evening, the state is looking to enhance the power supply from 850 MW to 1100 MW through gas turbines.

The statement came on the day the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) troopers opened fire at people protesting power shortages in Baramulla district, killing one youth and injuring two others.

In a tweet Dec 31,2011, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said: "Here's a facet of the power situation no one wants to acknowledge - power purchased Rs.2,330 crore, revenue realised is Rs.722 crore."
