| Empowerment of people linked with speedy development: Dy CM | | | early times report
Jammu JANUARY 3- Highlighting the pivotal role of local Self Government in accelerating development, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand said empowerment of people at grass root level will ensure speedy and balanced growth. He was addressing Orientation cum Training Programme of Panchayat members of Chhamb constituency, here today.
Underscoring the need for proper training of Sarpanchs and panchs, he said said local self government has been bestowed with multiple functions. He said that in order to train functionaries, orientation programmes have been organised by the government.
He said government has already issued orders for transferring functions of fourteen departments to the Panchayati Raj institutions and the step would go a long way in making panchayat a vibrant unit of administration. “panchyats and urban local bodies are in a better position to address the area specific needs of the people”, he maintained .
District Development Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma and other sectoral officers addressed the orientation camp.
While interacting with the sarpanchs and panchs, the Deputy Chief Minister said it is duty of the elected members of panchayat to ensure quality of work and keep a tab on the pilferage in delivery of different public schemes and programmes. He directed the concerned officers to provide all required logistic support to the elected representatives.
