| Musharraf invites kin of Indian POWs to search for them | | |
ISLAMABAD, JAN 13
President Pervez Musharraf today invited families of Indian prisoners of war believed to be held in Pakistani jails to search for them.
Musharraf's invitation came when visiting External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee conveyed to him the concerns of kin of POWs and urged him to take immediate action to locate any Indian military personnel held in Pakistani prisons.
Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon told reporters that Musharraf responded by saying that he was "very deeply concerned" about the matter and, being a soldier, he understood the concerns of the families of the POWs.
Similar offers were made by Musharraf in the past too, and the Pakistan government had said that inquiries conducted by it had revealed that no Indian POWs were currently in its jails.
Menon said, "We will go home and talk to the families (of POWs) so that they come (to Pakistan) and reassure themselves."
