Bhakh performed during cultural show of SMVDSB | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 3: The magic spell of Bhakh –a traditional Dogri singing style mesmerized the audience at the Auditorium of Spiritual Growth Centre, SMVSB, Katra on the 8th day of the ongoing Cultural Show of the performing arts of Trikuta Hills. Presentation of such a kind of rarest traditional artistic performing traditions is organized by Natrang Jammu under the direction of Balwant Thakur for Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. These programmes aims at showcasing the rarest priceless cultural heritage of the hills of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi for the visiting pilgrims at Katra which has already created a new record of crossing one crore mark last year. On the occasion, most striking and much talked about presentation was the performance of traditional Dogri singing style ‘Bhakh’. This out of the world singing style has many rare and unique features. This is sung without the accompaniment of any musical instrument in a chorus style by a group of six to seven singers. The most noteworthy feature of the form is that all the singers use different musical notes in there singing. Today’s style of Bhakh singing came from village Bakkal of Reasi District which was performed by the artists of Hari Saran Cultural Centre, Bakkal. The Bhakh singers who kept the audience spellbound with their effective singing included Baldev Raj Sharma, Shaftan Singh, Balwant Singh, Dhani Ram, Balwan Singh and Balwant Raj.
