Best Price violate rules , LMVD serves notice | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 3: The department of Legal Metrology served notice to management of the Bharti Wal -Mart company-Best Price for violations under Package Commodity Rules (PCR) asks to clarify its position within week's time. An official spokesperson with Legal Metrology Department stated the decision was taken to ensure that consumers rights are protected in relation to be informed of MRP, Packing date, Net Weight, address of the Manufacturer, identity of the commodity as well as consumer helpline number while purchasing pre-packed goods. "The department had seized packaged commodities from the premises of Best Price for using stickers for declaring mandatory declarations required under the Weights & Measures Act along with other discrepancies, official said. Official said that the use of stickers is prohibited under law and accordingly reply was sought from the nine manufacturer to show cause that why action may not be initiated against them. Out of 9, only 2 manufacturers admitted the omission and applied for composition and rectified the error observed. A sum of Rs 15000 was imposed and recovered as composition money from the defaulters. They said that for discrepancies in other seized products, management of Bharti Wal-Mart has been served notice to reply within a week's time, otherwise legal action as required under the act will be initiated against the company. |
