Congress seething with anger, unhappy with its ministers
All For Power

JAMMU, Jan 3: There are few Congress ministers, all holding important portfolios, who assert almost everyday that the present dispensation, believe in the principle of equitable development and it has treated all the three regions of the state -- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh -- alike. They also say day in and day out that the state has achieved tremendous progress across the state during the past three years. But more than that, these Congress ministers consistently say that Jammu province has witnessed developmental activities during the past three years on an unprecedented scale or of the kind it never witnessed before 2009.
These are the same Congress ministers whom most of the party workers accuse of "ignoring the party and the party workers" and "not doing anything" for strengthening the party, particularly in the Jammu province. These are the same ministers against whom most of the JKPCC functionaries and an overwhelming majority of party workers complain that they have "rendered the party ineffective and unreal by working against it and siding with the Chief Minister who has no regards for the Jammu province", "who has been ruling the state in the name of the state but enriching and developing Kashmir at the cost of Jammu" and "who has been systematically eroding the Congress' support-base by devising and implementing policies the people of Jammu province hate and despise". (The PDP is not happy with the Chief Minister, saying he has not done anything for Kashmir. The party terms the NC's three-year performance as "zero".) These are the same Congress ministers about whom it is said by most of the Congress leaders and workers as well as by general public that "they are not Cabinet Ministers; they are ministers of their respective constituencies" and "they have degraded their position and undermined the party by singing their master's tune (read Chief Minister Omar Abdullah).
It needs to be underlined that if the most of the JKPCC functionaries and party workers are against the present dispensation led by Omar Abdullah, they are equally disgusted with their own ministers. As a matter of fact, those in the Congress party had been meeting the Congress high command to persuade it to remove Omar Abdullah had also lodged serious complaints against these Congress ministers, besides others, suggesting that "it was the "nexus between Omar Abdullah and certain Congress ministers that has been responsible for the estrangement between the people and the party" and that "if the Congress was to remain relevant, especially in Jammu province, this nexus has to be broken and this can be broken only if the Congress high command is willing to take stringent action against three ministers, who have only brought shame to the party and who have been taking recourse to corrupt practices and amassing wealth and grabbing land." Believe it or not, but it is a fact that most of the Congress workers want a "CBI inquiry against these three ministers and other ministers to find what was their position before they were made ministers and after they became ministers". The general perception is that these "Congress ministers are on a looting spree", that "they were pauper before becoming ministers" and 'they became multi-millionaire in no time". It is also in circulation in the political corridors that wives of at least a couple of ministers are virtually taking care of the concerned ministries and boldly meddling in the affairs of the departments of which their husbands are the political bosses, in a manner that is beneficial in many ways in terms of personal gains. The things in this respect are getting public by the day and no more done secretly or in a hush hush manner.
If this is the attitude of the Congressmen towards the Congress ministers, what would be the attitude of the general public towards them? The JKPCC president has to intervene and stem the rot before it is too late. This is what the Congress workers want. They also want the change of guard. The JKPCC chief knows it.
