| SIM cards recovered from jailed militants issued from Sopore, 2 wards, 2 Pak militants held | | | Srinagar, Jan 13 The Counter intelligence sleuths arrested two wardens, while Prisons Department suspended six officials of Kote Bilwal jail as involvement of jail staff figuring in smuggling of mobile phones inside highly guarded jail. The authorities arrested two more Pakistani militants from the jail following disclosures that they too possessed mobile phones, but had destroyed them. Meanwhile the investigative agency has also identified an outlet of a private telecom company at Sopore, which had processed fake documents of army personnel to procure SIM cards, which had reached in the hands of militants including Pakistani ultras in jail. Official sources revealed to KNS that Prisons Department ordered suspension of five staffers of Kote Bilwal jail, who were assigned security duty earlier, for intelligence on duty leading to smuggling of mobile phones by militants inside the jail. Those placed under suspension include Ghulam Mustafa, Prabh Dayal, Mohd Rafiq, Bashir Ahmed, Mohd Ayub and Subash Kumar. They were reported to have a nexus with detunes and were instrumental in smuggling of mobile phones as well as hawala money in the jail. Sources said the Prisons Department was processing case of some more officials of Kote Bilwal jail for submission to Government for dismissal from the services for their “utter negligence” on duty. Action is also being contemplated against a former senior officer of the jail, they added. Simultaneously CID (CI) sleuths arrested two wardens of Kote Bilwal Jail , Suraj Singh and Kulbir Singh as their names figured during questioning of staffers and militants quizzed earlier in connection with mobile phones smuggling. Both of them were whisked away for questioning by the CID. The CID (CI) teams also arrested two Pakistani militants Ikram Asif of Rawalpindi and Akram Hashmi of Sialkote from Kote bilwal jail as investigations revealed that they too were in possession of two mobile phones, which they had destroyed during police crackdown on the jail. Both of them had pre paid SIM cards of a private telecom company with Nokia handsets. With this disclosure, number of possible SIM cards inside the jail crossed the magic figure of one dozen. It had all started with recovery of two SIM cards and mobile phones from Altaf Choudhry and Gurmeet Singh in the middle of October. During police crackdown in the jail last month and subsequent searches, police had recovered four more SIM cards and five Nokia handsets from the jail. Three militants including a Pakistani Abdul Hai had confessed during questioning that they had burnt three SIM cards and handsets in their barracks after first two SIM cards were seized by jail authorities. Sources said investigations have revealed that an outlet of a private company in Sopore, providing mobile services in the state, had processed fake documents on the name of army personnel to get pre paid SIM cards issued which later fell in the hands of militants in Kote Bilwal jail.
