Wanted an interlocutor for interlocutors! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 4: More than a month has passed since New Delhi's nominated interlocutors submitted their report to the Home Ministry. However, the concerned seem in no hurry to consider the `crucial report'. While the people in the Valley seem indifferent to the outcome of the report, it is the interlocutors who have lost patience. Last month, the Chief Interlocutor sought former chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed's intervention for consideration of his report by New Delhi. The reluctance of New Delhi to consider the report, according to a Hurriyat activist, has vindicated the stand of the separatists. Pertinent to mention the separatists boycotted them. However, some met them but not `officially'. The interlocutors have no alternative but to wait helplessly. It has been learnt that the Home Minister is a bit `disturbed' over some developments in the national capital. The possibility of an immediate consideration of the report, therefore, seems quite bleak. However, if the interlocutors seek the services on an interlocutor, their report may be considered soon. The interlocutors were appointed in October 2010 following the agitation that left 120 persons dead in Kashmir. The team visited far flung areas of the state several times to know about peoples' aspirations. They met journalists, civil society actors, politicians and detained militants. New Delhi compensated them handsomely for the `good job'. They got a monthly salary of Rs 1.50 lack each and the executive assistants appointed by them got Rs 40,000 every month. In addition, the interlocutors were treated as state guests during their visits to the state. |
