Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 4: Is City of Temples 'gradually' becoming place for dumping garbage and waste building material?
Yes, if one makes a round of city outskirts.
And for all the said mess, special thanks to ongoing "disagreement" between two Congress heavyweights; Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-U-Din.
Following a 'ban' by Minister Taj Mohi-U-Din not to dump garbage and waste building material collected from the city in River Tawi, officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation area already under a fix where to dispose the collected waste and are buying time from the local inhabitants of village Bhalwal, where the garbage is presently being dumped. The officials have assured the agitating villagers that new land is being identified for disposing off the solid waste.
Interestingly, under all these sequence of events happening during each passing day, the private Tractor Trolleys and Tipper Truck owners have "identified safe places" as dumping grounds for waste building materials.
A late night survey conducted by ET team, it was shocking to witness, Tractor Trolleys and Tipper Trucks loaded with waste building material being unloaded at the road side all along Circular Road ad Road starting from Amar Mahal towards Nagrota TCP.
Pertinent to mention here that Circular Road lead towards official residences of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, several Cabinet Ministers and also the office of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma. While the other area identified by ET team i.e road from Amar Mahal towards Nagrota belongs to Forest and Wild Life Department.
As "cunning" owners of Tractor Trolleys and Tipper Trucks are well aware of the fact, that there is no proper watch either by police or other departmental officials, so they easily manage to dispose off the waste building material in the said areas.
"If such a practice of dumping of garbage and waste building material continues, then the day is not far that the area which is free from pollution will become a havoc thereby causing pollution and will give birth to numerous diseases," lamented a morning walker.
While Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma was not available for comment, sources further share that garbage and solid waste material collected from across River Tawi i.e from Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Narwal, Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony etc is "secretly' being dumped in forest areas of Raika and Mahamaya, which seems to be alarming.
