BJP MLAs boycott govt programme
‘Celebrations on completion of 3 years a drama to mislead people’
1/5/2012 9:47:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 5:Alleging the three years rule of the NC-Congress coalition as black period in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the state Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) today termed the celebrations on completion of three years in office as a drama enacted to mislead the people of the state.
This was alleged by BJP MLAs Ashok Khajuria, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Shyam Choudhary and Sukhnandan Kumar, who boycotted government’s official function to celebrate the three year term.
Ashok Khajuria said that organizing mega programme to celebrate the completion of three years may be good enough for self satisfaction of Omar Abdullah and his team but how much satisfied and happy the people have been during three years can be well judged from the fact that Jammu, the city of temples, got turned into the place of protests, bandhs, dharnas and agitations.
While educated unemployed youth, farmers, refugees, home guards, pensioners, were on roads, those in government jobs too were agitating for seeking justice and legitimate rights, the pensioners were also sitting on protests. In other words, every one, irrespective of his caste, creed and faith, was expressing resentment and openly displaying anger against the coalition, then one can’t understand for what the Omar Abdullah and his colleagues are celebrating the three years.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the NC and Congress totally backtracked from election manifestos and never showed any seriousness in implementing any of the major promises made to the people during 2008 elections.. The promises like holding delimitation, ending discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh, providing job to at least one member of each family, assurance to adjust 8th passed youth in police did not see light during the last three years.
The state government continued with its discriminatory policy and just one instance is enough to prove this. He said while more than rupees 2300 crores were earmarked for Dal Lake, only Rs 2-3 crores were fixed for development of Mansar and Surinsar lakes.
Shyam Choudhary said that the government adopted a dictatorial and discriminatory approach towards the constituencies represented by non NC, non-Congress MLAs. Giving just rupees 200 for per kanal of agricultural land was the cruel joke of the coalition government with the farmers. He said that the crops/ agricultural products of Kashmir are given more importance than those of Jammu province.
While the government had packages for saffron, the world famous basmati of Jammu was not considered of any importance.
Sukhnandan Kumar said that the farmers of Jammu province suffered most during the three years rule of this government which speaks of anti-farmer and discriminatory policy of the coalition.
