NHPC terms Boniyar Incident ‘’Unfortunate’’ | Considering 10 lack Compensation to Altaf’s family | | Early times report Srinagar, Jan 5 : National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has expressed grief over the Boniyar Killing and has termed the incident ’’Unfortunate.’ The corporation is considering to give compensation to the Altaf’s (Victim) family and the matter is under the consideration of higher authorities of the corporation. Meanwhile, all the NHPC staff in Uri area remained confined to their offices and residential complexes for the third day on Thursday and have been advised by the Baramullah district administration not to move out of the complexes without permission. Sources told KNS that district administration is pressing hard on NHPC to give 10 lack compensation to the Altaf Ahmad Sood’s family who was killed in CISF firing on Monday in Boniyar. CISF is guarding the NHPC installations in the state and is not according to the state government’s spokesman the part of anti insurgency operation grid neither is it under the purview of controversial AFSPA, the law which provides immunity to security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. However the CISF has rejected the government claim and said that they enjoy the AFSPA cover. Sources revealed that Deputy Commissioner Baramullah Bashir Ahmad Bhat had several round of meetings with the NHPC officials and have insisted upon the corporation to provide compensation to the victim’s family. Chief Engineer NHPC, N H Parveshmaram confirmed to KNS that the corporation is considering the compensation element, however he said that the final decision has to be made by the higher authorities of the Corporation. “Yes we are considering about giving compensation to the family, but the decision has to be taken at the higher level,’’ Parveshmaram told The Chief Engineer expressed grief over the incident and termed the incident ‘unfortunate.’ adding, “We can not say that NHPC has nothing to do with the matter because CISF is the force guarding the NHPC installations.” He further said, “The incident was very unfortunate and should not have taken place.” Meanwhile, all the staff of the corporation remained indoors for the third day on Thursday fearing resentment from the public. However, the situation remained under control. “We are still confined to our complexes and offices,’’ NHPC Chief Engineer told KNS, adding the situation was under control. In the meantime Deputy Commissioner Baramullah Bashir Ahmad Bhat told KNS that the corporation employees and installations have been provided adequate security and the police and civil administration is keeping a close eye on the situation.
