Gaddi-Sippis demand special economic package | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT BANI (KATHUA), Jan 5: A team of the office bearers of the All J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association (AJKGSTWA) led by its Organizing Secretary Parveen Jaryal conducted an extensive 5 days tour of the far flung Gaddi Sippi inhabitations of tehsil Bani and convened a series of meetings with the community members. The community members of tehsil Bani led by Radha Krishan Phagan, President of the Bani unit of the Association gave a warm welcome to the visiting team of the Association and hailed the activities of the Association during the last 4 years. During the meetings threadbare discussions were held on the various problems and hardships being confronted by the Gaddi and Sipppi tribes in their day to day life and their remedial measures were also suggested. Parveen Jaryal asserted that Gaddi and Sippi tribes are underprivileged and downtrodden semi-nomadic transhumant tribes having a sizeable population of about 2.5 lakh in J&K and their economic activities revolve mainly around the strenuous avocation of rearing large flocks of goats and sheep. He further stated that these tribes reside in the far flung, high altitudinal difficult and inaccessible mountainous tracts of the state and that most of their inhabitations are still lacking the basic amenities of life. Expressing his concern over the plight of these tribes at the hands of the state Government, Jaryal said that not even a single step has been taken by state Govt. for the welfare of this downtrodden section of the society due to which their social and economic condition has been deteriorated further. He also urged the state Govt. to launch special economic package for uplifting the standard of living of Gaddi Sippi tribes.
