All paper work Mr Sadhotra | `Development requires tangible measures' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 5: Member Legislative Council and senior National Conference Leader Ajay Sadhotra today boasted of achievements of Omar led government. He talked about Sheri-i-Kashmir Employment & Welfare Programme for the Youth (SKEWPY), Public Service Guarantee Act and devolution of powers to Panchayats. SKEWPY has come under severe criticism from the people. Even National Conference workers have criticised it. According to them, it hits hard at the honour, dignity and integrity of the unemployed youth by providing doles to them. The unemployed youth have rejected it as a cruel joke cracked by the Chief Minister in the name of voluntary service allowance. The `gigantic economic package' as Chief Minister called it, has not solved the problem. In fact it has added to the woes of the unemployed youth. As far as empowering panchayats is concerned, it narrates a sordid tale of government's failures. The resignation of five Panches from Ganderbal last year must serve as an eye opener to the authorities. Does Sadhotra know why they resigned. Where are the Panchayat Ghars to host Panchayats. The concerned Minister talked about construction of Panchayat Ghars in December. This means democracy cannot go to grass root level untill Panchayat Ghars are constructed. When will the wait end Mr Sadhotra? Omar has plans to make Jammu Kashmir a model state in India. However, for the time being it continues to be the second most corrupt state in the country. This label, for the information of all was won during Omar's regime. Srinagar city, which Omar believes forms the face of the state has been ranked as the third dirtiest city in India. And last but not the least what happened to Omar's promises? AFSPA revocation, clean administration, upholding supermacy of judiciary and release of political prisoners have all been forgotten.
