Bank Manager caught smoking at Magam

Budgam, Jan 5: On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner, Budgam Mohammed Rafi the block level special anti tobacco squad comprising of Naib Tehsildar Magam, Abdul Rehman, Food Safety Officer, Zahoor Ahmed, Police personnel and volunteers of JKVHA consisting of Altaf Ahmed and other volunteers caught 16 persons smoking in public places at Magam and a fine of Rs 1,900 was recovered. It is pertinent to mention that Deputy Commissioner Budgam has announced that Budgam will be declared smoke free by 26th Janaury 2012 and has constituted anti tobacco teams in each block. The food safety officers have been designated as nodal officers and their progress is being evaluated every week by DC personally.
The persons caught smoking today, were mostly bus and sumo drivers and also included the Manager of Cooperative Bank, Magam.
The team counselled the drivers and advised them to desist from smoking. The anti-tobacco drive is being supported by an NGO J&K Voluntary Health Association.
