DFO Lakhanpur for inquiry but Director SFC shift the same to DFO | SFC-Timber Smuggler nexus | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Jan 5: The alleged nexus between timber smugglers and some black moles within State Forest Corporation (SFC) has became so strong enough that some SFC Officials instead of checking the alleged smuggling roughed up their own colleagues for granting safe passage to carriers smuggling timber at Lakhnapur, sources said According to sources the incident occurred on National Highway at Narwal Bala area when forest guards posted in the area intercepted a truck laden with above 4000 illegal willow clefts. The truck bearing registration number JK02AA/3979, which was on way to Jullandhar from Sangam, Kashmir, was intercepted by forest guards of Gama unit at Narwal on specific information and on being searched around 4000 illegal willow clefts were recovered. While the guards were questioning the driver of the truck identified as Mulkh Raj and seizing the truck, two forest officials posted in Lakhanpur forest post appeared on the scene. Both the officials parked their vehicle in front of the seized truck and one of them sprang upon his companion and snatched the key of the vehicle with the intention to flee with the truck. However, their attempt was foiled by other forest officials present there. Meanwhile one of the two officials appeared on the scene posed himself as DFO of Lakhanpur and then tried to lure the inspecting to lay their hands aside of the matter and reportedly offered a bid to keep the matter under carpet. However the identity of this official was later confirmed as a guard. The matter was reported to the higher officials but to amaze no action against erring forest officials. DFO Lakhanpur Sameer Bharat when contacted shifted the responsibility on the inquiry on higher officials but to its sharp contrast Vinod Ranjan, Director State Forest Corporation (SFC) said such small cases should be settled by his subordinate officials posted in Lakhanpur. However, the seized truck with illegal willow clefts is presently under the custody of Gama unit 2, Jammu for its final disposable, sources informed Worth to mention Jammu & Kashmir State Forest Corporation (SFC) a statutory Corporation was established under the J&K State Forest Corporation Act, 1978 with the objectives of better preservation, supervision and development of forests but the present incident is an indictor that it has failed to save the green cover of the state due to the alleged nexus between forest officials and timber smugglers. |
