Sordid saga of administrative anarchism, New Delhi's overbearing approach | Omar completes three years | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's speech to mark completion of three years of his government was loaded with adjectives, phrases and vehement claims of his government having changed the face of state. One would not like to argue with man on the highest chair of the state but facts are facts and more importantly, they are sacred. Omar organized a grand festive function in the laws of civil secretariat and if political observers are asked, they would tell you that the young man wanted to assert and tell everyone around that New Delhi has allowed him to stay for the next three years. The function made it ostensibly clear that Omar knows his detractors are increasing in number with each passing day and he has to tell them that he is New Delhi's man in Jammu and Kashmir. Not only this, Omar has shown leaders of Jammu and Kashmir Congress, their place in the national scenario. Divided house, they have been given a shock of their life. Their silence is owing to the ministries being headed by them and if during the reshuffle, they are dropped, things are likely to take a u-turn. Omar talked about unabated support extended by people to his government during last three years and called it his biggest achievement but did not mince words on why the party was delaying the decision on the MLAs thrown out by BJP, so that elections could be held. One fails to understand if his government got unabated support from the people during the last three years, them who were the stone-palters and why does he himself talk about Kashmir being an unresolved issue? The unabated support story does not augur when one sees the swelling number of PDP workers. Omar also referred to masses being his highest strength but his action on ground prove otherwise. His workers are annoyed with his government and what to talk of outsiders, his own uncle accused him of being fearful of his (Uncle) growing clout in the party. While speaking at a compendium releasing function at the lawns of Civil Secretariat here on completion of the three years of coalition government, Omar Abdullah lauded the liberal support extended by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister, P. Chidambaram and other UPA leadership in helping state to register substantial achievements in all sectors. However, Omar failed to explain to the employees why this unflinching support failed to get them arrears in cash and that too in one go. It also failed to explain, why the employees had to face wrath of state police for something which is their right? They also want to know why government is fearful of increasing the retirement age of employees from 58 to 60 years, if it is getting unflinching support from New Delhi. He also talked about New Delhi's role in strengthening ties between coalition partners. Rightly so, two Congress stalwarts ensured Omar is not dislodged, an issue which Early Times would debate later. They ran from one end to the other, telling everybody that Omar was New Delhi's hope in Kashmir and should be allowed to complete tenure of six years. They mended fence with their arch rival Ghulam Nabi Azad. They reprimanded J&K Congress whenever it tried to project its point of view before the high command, which are essentially Madam Sonia Gandhi and her Political Advisor Ahmad Patel for Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah also referred to the support extended to him by his Council of Ministers in driving the growth positively and taking development to all areas. This support had to be there since NC stalwarts had already been sidelined while Congress ministers had been giving unflinching powers. No checks and balances for Congress ministers, is what HAS helped in carrying forward this coalition whose every member speaks for himself. He also mentioned the support of Administration and government employees of all categories in implementation of government policy aimed at welfare of the State and the people. (To be continue) |
