‘Mantra' at High level Performance review meet: Work out effective coordination | Omar asked to take Cong on board in every matter, avoid conflicts | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 5: Riding high on the wave of completion of three years of coalition in J&K led by the party, the NC high command has been directed by New Delhi to work out a better coordination with main ally Congress and take its leadership on board on the major decisions in order to avoid further conflicts over issues of governance and other matters and allow coalition to work smoothly and effectively. This was conveyed to father son duo -Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah amid ample indications that the Congress High command has for now chosen to put off the issue of change of guard in J&K, albeit with a note of caution that irritants and bickering have to be completely avoided by taking the ally as equal partner in all matters. Sources said in the high level meeting that lasted around 40 minutes, even as Chief Minister along with his father submitted the performance report of J&K coalition to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the latter is understood to have asked to sort out and settle the matters that are pending including the exercise of effecting reshuffle of the cabinet and its expansion, more importantly on the need to have cordiality ,harmony and complete coordination in the matters of governance. This has been necessitated in the wake of the fact that NC has been dominating not only on governance scene but also in taking major decisions like making vital and high level appointments where the ruling party has been showing unilateral approach. The Congress, sources said has taken exception to the high level appointments including that of existing J&K Bank Chairman , the appointment of former chairman MY Khan on the one of the key posts post his retirement and similar other decisions where Congress leadership has been completely ignored in terms of consultation. Sources said in the high level meeting, attended for the first time by UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi , both Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah sought some more time for effecting reshuffle contending they had to sort out issues and set things in the right perspective in their own house first even as both admitted that the exercise had become mandatory and imperative as overlapping of portfolios exists in the present set up. However, sources confirmed that PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz who was also present in the meeting was authorized by the party president so far as the Congress is concerned, it is he who will decide on all matters of reshuffle and expansion in terms of the portfolios to distributed afresh and the fresh persons to be accommodated in the council of ministers. Sources also confirmed during the talk about reshuffle and expansion, the representation of KPS in the cabinet has been agreed in principle by the High Command from the Congress quota. With this getting official Prof Soz has been authorized to have a free hand , sources said he being the chairperson of the Coordination Committee was also directed to work out and control the 'coordination wheel ' , convene the meeting at the earliest and take up all issues on its agenda in order to ensure effective and meaningful governance in cohesion with NC. Sources said consequent upon these directions in the high level meeting at New Delhi, the meeting of the coordination committee has been scheduled on Saturday, January 7, in which it has been desired that NC high command also makes it positively this time, earlier it being the NC leaders' non availability that led to postponement twice. Among other things in the agenda sources said the appointment of heads in various key organisations and corporations and PSUs pending for a long time would be worked out in the coordination committee meeting. |
