People observe bandh in Rajouri, majority community describes it as "interference" | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI/JAMMU, Jan 06: Members of the minority community today observed a complete bandh in Rajouri, alleging "encroachment" of the school land and some rooms by some people. Given by VHP, the call for bandh was supported by Beopar Mandal, Rajouri, Bajrang Dal and Sanatan Dharam Sabha Committee. The bandh was complete as minority community shopkeepers kept their business establishments closed. They gathered at tehsil chowk in the town and held a demonstration, asking the government to resolve the issue. They alleged that some people forcibly occupied three rooms of government higher secondary school (boys) in the town after throwing out furniture items two days back and held there prayers. Adressing the protesters, VHP leader Satpal Sharma said they would be forced to launch an agitation in the town if the government failed to get the government school building vacated at the earliest. Our Rajouri correspondent adds: Tension got aggravated in the town today with minority community members too joining the issue on which the majority community was already agitated. The majority community members said the school premises was built inside the Mughal Sarai mosque and the dispute, if any, was between them and the education department. Meanwhile, the district administration was also fully geared to keep the situation under control. A huge deployment of police was made in the town to avoid any untoward incident. In a joint press statement issued after Friday prayers by Muslim Coordination committee president Abdul Qayoom Dar, Khateeb, Jamia Masjid, Rajouri, Maulana Ghulam Rasool, Khateeb, Idgah, Rajouri, Maulana Abdul Rauf, Chairman, Madarsa Ishfaqiya Rizviya, Maulana Younis Qadri, president, Madarsa Mohammdiya Rizviya, Ghulam Rasool Wani, vice-president Ishtiaq Bhat, Muslim Youth Front president Zahoor Bhat, and Milaad Committee members -- Mushtaq Dar and Abdul Rashid Dar -- condemned the interference of minority community in the issue. They said they wanted the issue to be resolved amicably and maintain peace in the town.
