Agri department organises one day training programme

JAMMU Jan 06: A One day training programme on Scope and Profitable Vegetable Cultivation was organized by the Farmers Training Centre in the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan, Talab-Tillo, Jammu under Technology Mission, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

More than 100 farmers and farm women selected from the vegetable growing areas of Kathua and Samba districts who are extensively and traditionally involved in vegetable cultivation participated in the training programme.

Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria, called upon the participating farmers to take full benefits of the incentives being provided by the Department of Agriculture. He told the farmers to contact the nearest field functionary of the department to avail the benefits of the Government incentives at their door steps.

In the valedictory session, Joint Director Inputs V K Bhakri revealed that the purpose of the training was to make the farmers aware of the various challenges in the vegetable farming system and how to overcome these challenges by latest scientific techniques, so that the farming community involved in this farming system is in a position to get the maximum possible benefits from vegetable growing.

Earlier, Joint Director of Agriculture (Ext) Dr S S Jamwal in his inaugural address emphasized that the department is working hard to create awareness amongst the farmers through various training programmes organized at the divisional level by the extension wing of the Directorate of Agriculture, Farmers Training Centre and through the field functionaries of the respective district.

Dr R.K.Gupta Professor and Head vegetable division of SKUAST- J, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the importance of vegetable cultivation in the adjoining areas of Jammu city and also apprised the farmers about the latest techniques developed and tried by the University authorities for getting the maximum returns by the farmers.

Dr R K Samnotra also from vegetable division of SKUAST- J spoke on the issues like protected cultivation of vegetables, use of Organic Farming, Vermi compost and offseason vegetable cultivation.
