BJP alleges discrimination against Sikhs in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 7:Alleging discrimination against Sikh community in Jammu & Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janta Party has vowed to fight for the rights of Sikhs. In a meeting of prominent Sikh leaders and citizens at the party headquarters today, State BJP President Shamsher Singh Manhas took a review of the various problems facing the community and announced the party’s decision that State Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh will coordinate with the minority Sikh community to chalk-out a strategy for redressal of various long pending issues confronting the community. Manhas said that the BJP’s concern for the Sikh community was genuine and not motivated by vote politics unlike other political parties. He said that the BJP has always worked against injustice in society and it will work with same zeal and enthusiasm to get justice for Sikh community. Manhas also announced that in near future the party will organize a grand Sikh Sammelan with senior national leaders as the main speakers and participants. He said that the Omar Abdullah government has proved to be a total failure and the BJP will not hesitate taking to streets if there is no proper attention given to the discrimination and refugee problems faced by the Sikh community. Dr. Jitendra Singh said that there is a lot in common between the BJP and the Sikh community and that this relationship is based on common ideals of patriotism, uprightness and self-respect which makes Sikh community a natural ally of BJP. He said that the coalition ruling parties have constantly exploited the Sikh community for votes but have failed to give it representation in the council of ministers. Dr. Jitendra Singh said that a detailed documentation of West Pakistan Refugees has aleady been submitted to the Central leadership of BJP for perusal at the national level and in parliament. It is a unique situation that Jammu & Kashmir is the only State in the country which does not grant voting rights to West Pakistan Refugees settled here even as two of the Indian Prime Ministers, including Manmohan Singh, belong to this section of refugees.
