Madan seeks withdrawal of VAT on Canteen items

AKHNOOR, JANUARY 07- Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of Rs. 20 lakh Panchayat Ghar at village Rajwal in Akhnoor block, near here.
The funds for the Panchayat Ghar will be met from MNREGA and 13thFinance Commission. This is part of 12 such Panchayat Ghars sanctioned for Akhnoor block at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.40 crore. The facility will be used as multi-activity Centre, namely for the purpose of Panchayat activities as well as community purpose.
Member Parliament, Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, large number of Sarpanchs, Panchs, Government officers and people from several parts of Akhnoor tehsil were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the departments under his control, the Minister said that an earnest effort has been made to overall the entire infrastructure across the State and all district hospitals have been strengthen to cater the increased work load. He said with the active cooperation of all sections of the employees, the department touched new heights and recognized as number one in the country in primary health service. He said that constant efforts will be made to improve this vital sector, which is directly connected with the lives of people, said Mr. Sharma.
Mr. Madan Lal highlighted the demands of ex-servicemen and asked the State Government to immediately abolish the VAT on the CSD Canteen items. He said a large chunk of ex-servicemen live in the State and Government must take a decision to safe guard their interests as they have contributed for guarding the nation and several have sacrificed their lives. He also stressed for taking more steps for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
Responding to the people’s demand, he assured to provide funds for construction of a sports stadium in the area to give impetus to the sports activities in the rural areas. He also assured that he will take up the issue of up-gradation of middle school, Dhok as high school with the concerned quarters. He asked the people to take benefits of various centrally sponsored schemes.
